Re: The afterlife...?
/JCMG/ wrote:If there were afterlife, look at this.
If you were to go to heaven because you've been all good, like what they say, then you get resurrected at the Judgement Day, why would you go back to Earth if life in heaven is WAY better than this life now?
I'm not sure if I proved this right, but yeah....
No, it goes when you die, its like sleeping until judgement day, then its either rebirth, heaven, or hell . ..
That's just one of many different ideas/theories about the afterlife, probably many we haven't even heard of.

That's what I'm saying. They say when people believe and trust Jesus they will go to heaven once you die. You mentioned about rebirth. Why be reborn in a world a wonderful world after Judgement Day when the life in heaven is even more perfect than that? You would pick the place that is better.

Okay if we pretend that your belief is true, then would that mean that there's more than one way for our souls to leave our body, apart from death?

I've had many out of body experiences on drugs, so it does lead me to believe I am not just a body, nobody is. It could be why when you dream you can be in two places at once, why people claiming to have seen the afterlife when they died for a few minutes, probably did see something.
I think of a spirit world, but I think its more of a mental realm. I feel my mind isn't part of the reality we have now, its not matter, my mind, and everybody else's mind is rooted in another phase of reality completely, like its our bodies that is locking us to this plane of existence. But when we dream, our minds are allowed to wander a little further and more freely...
Just think of our bodies as prisons for our mind and soul etc, and when it finally gives, we are released into whatever unknown place awaits.

i think the general principle is you're not the one who gets to choose what happens, that's where god comes in.

Re: The afterlife...?
Okay, I sort of get what you're saying Son of Gaia.
Okay this may be partly off topic, but it's directed towards the Christian's belief of heaven...I think. I don't know much about Christianity.
There's this one Twilight Zone episode where there's this guy who lives a criminal life, and when he dies, he goes to what he believes is Heaven. In "heaven", a man who the criminal believes is some sort of angel, grants him any wish he wants. And for the next few days, the criminal gets pretty much every thing he ever wanted; delicious food, winning every single hand at poker, girls in bunny outfits. At first it seems great, but he eventually gets bored of getting everything he ever wanted. The criminal also wonders why God sent him to Heaven when he died, since the criminal knows that he made poor choices in his life. The criminal asks the "angel" why God allowed him to enter Heaven. The angel replies, "But you aren't in Heaven. This is actually Hell." So...basically the guy has to face eternal boredom for the rest of his life.
So...would Heaven truly be perfect if you got whatever you wanted? Despite of the story, I could probably think of a million ways to have fun anyway. And...
What the frick does that have to do with anything!?

You die, your dead. Nothing happens. We are just walking brains, we control every part of our body. When we are killed then how the hell will we be able to see, smell, taste, feel, or hear anything?
How can there be anything?

Because as well as our brains there's also us, our consciousness, and if you believe in such things, our spirits. Yes, the brain does allow us to operate in the material plane of existence.
I have an question for you, when you dream, how do you see what you see whilst your eyes are shut sleeping? As well as vision you can hear, though their are no sounds in your quiet bedroom. And you have a sense of smell, taste, and feel. Yes, it's not 100% clear like we get when we're awake but we still see, hear, feel etc nonetheless. What is it were even sensing, after all, its not matter either?

i think that you have to go somewhere once you die, your brain is just a tool, used to harness something bigger, the real "person" in you. i just can't imagine someone, with such a complex personality, just vanish
Re: The afterlife...?
(the goblin had been though all this before so he just reposted something below, picking up on something else mentioned, saying "...I like the idea of double posting at time since it saves the impossibility of trying to relate everything in one post, resulting in something far too long to get read by others, by replacing it by something that probably would get read because it was short, albeit double posted...", in fact, the goblin only knew of few sites that ran a double posting rule and those that did normally lost content and momentum from doing so)
repost from "karma related to questioning ones faith" thread, elsewhere
the goblin thanked the poster noting that the point of the title is "how will my karma be effected if I question my faith", which admittedly is the mixing of unknowns here, that of "a tally" on the one hand, and "a judge" on the other, "...ah, but everyone knows Calvin's argument, which goes "if a potter makes a pot, and the pot leaks water, is it the fault of the pot or the potter, it's the fault of the potter isn't, so then, if God makes you, and you sin, whose fault is it"..." voiced the goblin, somehow knowing that the response of "free will", which is silly because God decides the amount of free will here, and knows the outcome too, in short, there is just nothing God doesn't know, nor anything that God can delegate to chance since God is the all knowing God, and with that the goblin added "...the other argument is the atheist's one in the picture below...", but the goblin preferred the Gnostic way where there is no tally nor judge, just a "journey to self" here

I believe
("...don't you just love it, when what one has written elsewhere is exactly the same reply for here too, Gnostic seek to know, and what's more they know that it is within themselves to know but it is not some revelation, it is an awaking alone...")
repost from some religious thread, elsewhere
"...ah yes, that word "believe" again, but you don't know do you, so what do you actually really know mortals, that you are here, yes, and that your "journey to self", journey to death too, is evident, simply all around you now is indisputable as your "dailylife" is it not, and you could say that you are just the sum total of the trappings of your "dailylife" here..." mentioned the goblin, thinking "dailylife" as ones age, how one looks in the mirror, status, money in the bank, etc., continuing "...but me, I know that I am more than that because I keep facing this slot trying to make posts, not as some religion but as a counter conditioning process to dailylife, that after a while, I just see myself from what I post...", the goblin paused, then concluded "...look, "knowing" is all you can go on, and you can make pacts with the faiths, just as you can accept the trappings of "dailylife" as its total, and even amass those trinkets of the moneygod too if you like, but in the end you'll still be asking yourself "where am I in all this", won't you mortal, because "believing" is accepting faith for truth just because you have been told to do so, or that it is written as such somewhere, where in fact your duty is to know, so that "your journey to self" is simply "to know for yourself", not faith nor "I beleive" then..."
