Christmas Time! :D

In 274 CE the Roman Emperor Aurelien officially set the date of December 25th natalis Solis Invicti (the birthday of the inconquerable Sun) in honour of the Sun God. The festival took place just after Winter Solstice, when the days became longer.

The Roman Emperor Constantine (fourth Century CE) was converted to Christianity. Alliances were formed between Constantine and the early Christian Church, and in 324 he made Christianity the official religion of Rome. In 349 CE Pope Julius formally selected December 25th as the birth date of Christ, and so began the celebration of Christmas and the arrogation of seasonal Pagan symbolism and religious theme.

The Christmas traditions 'borrowed' from Pagans were the yule log, bringing an evergreen tree into the house and decorating it, celebrations, games, food and drink, frankincense and mirth are also Pagan things, representing life and death..

Germanic Pagans used to celebrate Yule (winter solstice) for 12 days, hence the 12 days of Christmas.

The fatman climbing down your chimney originated from Germanic Pagans also, but it was a troll who would crawl down your chimney and eat you if you were bad...

This information is readily available on the net if any Christians wish to challenge it...

it seems the bible being so strong is really quite fragile these days...

For a guy who doesn't know a lot about it, you really like to put down Christianity.. and bringing up Santa Clause isn't really a valid point, that has nothing to do with why Christians celebrate Christmas, that is just a story for the enjoyment of children

It is still his opinion though...no matter how obscure it may be. But, opinions can be ridiculed, so I can go either way...

They are not ideas, they are facts.

After all the things Christianity has done to other religions over the years least they can do is face some home truths about the origins of the things they celebrate. Even Easter Eggs were a Pagan tradition. Its said the only Christian tradition to have come from them is midnight mass...

Christians used to burn witches for being evil, yet they seemed to be the one Christianity borrowed all their traditions from...

And I'd say I do know a bit about it even this:

Satan was inspired by the real Morning Star which was the planet Venus as seen in the morning by the ancient Greeks.

Satan was said to be the wanderer, and also, the brightest star of all the angels in heaven..

Phosphoros ie; Lucifer was the name for planet Venus as seen in the morning ie; the Morning Star - which just happens to be the name of the babylonian King mistook to be Satan. Also it was eventually called the wandering star and was always known to be the brightest star in the sky, when it was seen.

Lucifer was really a quite real tyrannical babylonian King who was written about and once read by the founders of Christianity - mistook to be the devil.
Over time, Lucifer and Satan became one, and turned from a star to an angel, to a fallen angel and then to a horned Devil.

Christians used to mistake witches - Pagans (normal everyday folk who worshipped their own gods and practised non-evil magic) - to be evil and used to burn them at the stake for their apparent evil ways. These witches worshipped a Horned God named Pan - which had a mans body, and deers head, and cloven feet and had horns of course.

They took this to be Satan and thus the shape of Lucifer/Satan as a horned devil was born.

After all Christianity has done in the past, those who spread the religion and defend it until their last breath should at least trace the history of the religion, and I'm not talking about the history of Jesus, I'm talking about the history of Christianity.
